Welcome!

Miami Theatre Players is a completely student run group that performs a musical each semester on the SUNY New Paltz campus.  All students are welcome to audition and participate.

Our History

What started as a group of friens performing a small production in their residence hall, blossomed into what is today the Miami Theatre Players.

In 2004, Alyssa Weiss, a NP student from Miami brought together students in the hope of performing a musical production of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".  With no funding, the cast of fewer than ten people never expected that performing a show in their residence hall lounge would prompt such a response from their fellow students.  Following the large audience turnout, the cast dubbed themselves the Scudder Hall Players.  In the following years they performed pruductions including "Peter Pan", "Mary Poppins", and "Beauty and the Beast".  After Alyssa graduated in May 2006, the group was left to friend and fellow cast member, Ilyssa Leeper, who continued the group's work with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".

In the spring of 2007, the Scudder Hall Players outgrew performing in lounge spaces.  With a ton of support and hard work, the group became an official Student Organization and took the name Miami Theatre Players as an ode to their founder.  The group is open to all SUNY New Paltz students, and performances moved to Studley Theater Auditorium with performances of "The Little Mermaid", "Bye, Bye, Birdie" and "Once Upon a Mattress".

The group grew and expanded again and now includes numerous members, has selective auditions due to the vast numbers of people who raise interest in the group.  The Miami Theatre Players most recently performed shows in McKenna Theatre such as "Once On This Island" and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum".
